The Traffic Services Unit promotes traffic safety, conducts collision investigations, and solves traffic-related problems throughout the city through intervention, education, and partnering with various government and private organizations to address community traffic concerns. 

Motors

Officers with the Motor unit focus on reducing the rate and severity of traffic collisions by concentrating efforts on speed reduction, high-risk violation enforcement, driver education, pedestrian behavior, traffic safety presentations to the public, defective equipment violation enforcement, special event traffic control, traffic hazard notification, and roadway condition improvements. The Motor unit is also committed to responding to citizen traffic complaints.

Major Accident Investigations Team

The Oceanside Major Accident Investigations Team (MAIT) comprises Traffic Investigators trained in collision analysis and reconstruction, including surveying equipment and design software to investigate and document severe injuries and fatal traffic collisions accurately.  They perform in-depth collision investigations and are responsible for investigating all traffic-related crimes, including hit-and-runs, street racing, reckless driving, and vehicular manslaughter.

DUI Enforcement

The Oceanside Police Department is committed to apprehending intoxicated drivers and educating the community about the dangers of driving under the influence. The Department's DUI Team has demonstrated an earnest commitment to the enforcement of laws relating to driving under the influence through directed patrols focusing on DUI apprehension, conducting regular sobriety and traffic safety checkpoints, and providing training to Department personnel on detecting the signs and symptoms of drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
